Taxiing and holding

Post by Oak77 » Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:31 am

Hello Antonello,

thank you for your work and support. I wonder:
  • Taxiing directions (Taxi via Alpha, Alpha One, Hold at Runway Thirty Two) are not supported, right? I haven't experienced any yet, but I don't know if this is due to the airports missing some definitions in XP11, or due to the fact that it is not implemented (which is more likely, looking into your manual).

I wonder, is ATC124th Open Source and open to contributions? I didn't find sources, so I'd assume it's your own "proprietary" project. I don't know if I'd be able to create a little engine for taxiing instructions, but I wanted to look at it.
  • Holding points, as far as I tested ATC 124th, are wrong. It seems to me, that the logic is, that when aircraft is nearing the treshold of correct runway, the ATC message stating to get in touch with Tower is played and/or Tower Contact option in menu is activated. But this does not work on many airports well. In example in KASE, the taxiway doesn't extend all the way to the runway 15 threshold, but ends about 1500 feet earlier, where is also the holding point. Obviously, you cannot enter the runway without clearance, but with 124th ATC you must, because you have to get to the treshold of runway 15 to trigger the Tower. In reality, you don't even have to taxi trough the runway to the treshold and you can (with most of small aircrafts, depends on certification) start your take-off right from A1 level, with plenty of runway left. SImilar problem is at KEGE, where are two holding points piror to runway.

So the question is, is that a problem of missing definitions in the airport, missing general data in XP11, or simply it's not implemented? It's also related to what I wrote in the 1st post.

Hi Oak,
the taxi parser has been pushed back because it was incompatible with most of the new airports. No 124thATC is not open source, and collaboration with other developers will take in consideration in the future. Is in my intention to re-introduce a full taxi support in the next versions though.
Regarding the runway threshold, is not easy to determinate in any scenario the different runways pattern, my advice is to extend the runway radio in the options, is the only way to avoid the issue you're reporting.

Where is the setting for this option?

Hi,
I think if you increase this value...maybe to 0.2, then you should get the tower contact earlier.

holdingPointRadius#0.1
